Tournaments

NTX Tournaments run Free Sparring and Pattern events. All Competitors must be full members of NTX Schools or Other Organisations who are invited, and must be in possession of valid Martial Arts Insurance. To enter a Tournament, simpy complete the application: NTX Schools – Tournament Application
Patterns
Competitors are judged by 3 or 5 judges for Correct Stance, Technique, Section as well as Power, Balance, Timing and Accuracy. The pattern selected is the pattern for the Competitors next grading examination or from the most recent examination. A majority descision will determine which competitor will win the draw.
Free Sparring
Competitors need to be in possession of their own full set of Sparring Equipment including mouthguard, groinguard, shin protectors, sparring boots & gloves, headguard. The gloves must cover the wrist and finger tips. The headguard must cover the zygoma (side of cheek) and occiput (base of skull). The boots must cover the instep and heel and must cover the toes. The centre referee will mimise any potential risk of physical harm. Judging is by 3 or 4 corener judges who score points with a majority descision desciding which competitor wins.
Sparring is touch contact only to the body above the belt and the front of the head. Grabbing, throwing, holding, sweeping is prohibited. Heavy contact, avoidance of sparring, leaving the sparring square, making contact below the belt or to the back of the body will result in a warning. Three warnings result in disqualification. Disqualification may also result from agressive attitude, swearing, disrespect to the referee or other competitor. This also applies to the supporters of each competitor. The referees descisionis final and cannot be disputed. Competitors and/or their supporters who do not uphold Good Sportsmanship will not be invited to an NTX tournament again.
Advantages of Tournaments
Our techniques improve in preparation for these events. Patterns become sharper and Sparring techniques become more accurate and effective. Controlling ones ‘nerves’ and emotions in front of this audience also builds Good Charachter.
Student & Parents Responsibility
Good Sportsmanship is essential. No student will always win every competition. A Martial Artist is graceful in defect and humble in victory. The most important aspect of competition is participation, not winning or losing. A child of 5 years and older should be able to understand and we ask the assistance of parents in explaining this to their children well in advance of any competetive event.
