Hi, i’m Daisy and I am 10 years old. Ive been learning Taekwon-Do for a year and I’ve just gained my Green Belt. My brother and sister are also Green Belts. We practice our patterns every week in the living room, though we sometimes run out of space! Monday and Friday are the highlights of my week because I can’t wait to go to my Taekwon-Do lessons. Sir and Mrs K are fantastic role models and I am very proud to have them as my teachers. I one day hope to be known as GrandMaster Daisy!!!
“Future Black Belt! Talking Taekwon-Do” by Holly Harper (April 2008)
Taekwon-Do is great! I started training about a year ago now and Im already a green belt! We do so many things, I love them all, especially free sparring! Sir and Mrs K are great teachers and they are both absolutely awesome at Taekwon-Do. We do so much here and learn a new kick or something every week. I have just started the NTX Team which is where some of the NTX students get a chance to train with Black Belts for three hours once a month. Its hard work but I love it. I think Taekwon-Do is great and can’t wait till I get my Black Belt and hopefully I’ll get it by the time i’m twelve!!
“100 Press Ups? No Problem! TKD Training” by Mollie Hardaker
Hi I’m Mollie and I am 10 years old. I’ve just achieved my green belt. This is my second year of Taekwon-Do and throughout this time I have learnt loads! Taekwon-Do has built up my strength, confidence and stamina. If ever anyone attacks me in the street I would know how to defend myself thanks to Sir and Mrs K teaching me. We also use a different language in Taekwon-Do-we speak Korean. Before I started Taekwon-Do I found it difficult to do one press-up or sit-up but now I can do loads of them. I hope you enjoyed my Taekwon-Do experience.

I started Taekwon-do because I thought it would make me more confident and stronger. Also getting different coloured belts as I got better would be fun. My favourite activities are board breaking with feet! I like kick for kick with partners and learning new kicks as I like to hear the snap of the pad as I kick it. I also like doing the exams. I don’t like patterns as much as the other activities but I know how important they are. Taekwon-Do helps me keep fit, it has given me self-confidence and I have made loads of new friends!

“Being a Female Black Belt” (July 2007)
I began training in Taekwondo initially to learn how to defend myself, which I thought would be possibly a short course that I would complete and that would be it but how wrong I was! I joined a club and took my first grading test after just 4 weeks training and I passed my yellow tag, after this I was hooked. I trained about 3 times per week with my club and I trained every evening on my own at the gym, hours of practice in the studio, perfecting my patterns and trying to improve my kicks and breaking boards to learn technique and power. Taekwondo for me then became my own personal journey, I wanted to be really good at it and decided that I wanted my black belt and nothing or no one was going to stand in my way! I would go to work tired having trained hard and even used my lunch hour to train at the local gym, even though I was sometimes exhausted I knew it would be worth all of the hard work. There are many different levels of black belts, some people do the minimum required amount of training and can pass their black belt at a reasonable rate but I wanted to be a very high standard of black belt. I wanted to understand why we do things and how to maximise my own body mass, I spent hours and hours breaking boards and wood, just so I could go to class and do it first time every time and also to be able to help my fellow students who may be struggling with something. Finally after training hard for 3 years my black belt test came and after grading for seven hours, I stood and was awarded my belt and certificate. I was mentally and physically exhausted but it was the best day of my life, I had done it and with a great score. I planned from then on to open clubs and teach what I had learnt to others which I am delighted to say I have done for many years. I love Taekwondo and believe that it truly helps you in all areas in your life. I am blessed to have been able to teach, it truly is a gift and has strengthened my physically but more importantly mentally. My advice to anyone wanting to take up training is to go for it,or to anyone who has just started out, just throw yourself into your training , train at every opportunity, even if its on your own in the garden, this will make you a better standard and you can then use the classes to perfect and sharpen your technique. There are many versions of Taekwondo, try to stick with the traditional Taekwondo, the undiluted original training, that General Choi created, in his words “It is my earnest desire that Taekwondo should retain its original concept and technique”. I hope to continue to do this …… Tae Kwon!
